Can you take a rental car on the sand? Do you need a permit? The rules every visitor should know before driving near the dunes.

Drive your own car to our desert camp, park free, and jump straight into rides, BBQ dinner and live shows — from just AED 20 per person. No pickup fees, no waiting for a bus, no middlemen.
Most desert safaris charge AED 100–150 just to cover the bus that collects you from your hotel. If you already have a car in Dubai — your own, a rental, or a friend's — you don't need that bus. Drive out to the dunes yourself on a normal tarmac road, and spend the savings on the fun part. First time doing this? Our beginner's guide to the self drive desert safari walks through the whole evening before you go. Here's exactly how an evening with us goes:
After you book, we WhatsApp you the exact Google Maps pin. The camp sits just off the main desert highway, about 45 minutes from Downtown Dubai — the whole route is paved, so any sedan or rental car makes it easily. Aim to arrive around 3:00 PM.
Leave your car in our free, secure parking area at the camp entrance — it never touches sand. Our licensed safari drivers take over from here in Land Cruisers built for the dunes, with roll cages, deflated tyres and seat belts for every guest.
Dune bashing at sunset, camel rides, sandboarding, henna, shisha, a full BBQ buffet and three live shows under the stars. Around 9:00 PM — or whenever you're ready — you walk back to your car and drive home. No waiting for a bus to fill up.
Every package below runs daily, year-round. Self drive options are the best value; if you don't have a car we'll pick you up from any hotel in Dubai. Children under 3 join free on all standard packages.
All prices are per person in UAE dirhams, with no hidden extras — what you see here is what you pay at the camp. Groups of 10+ get a discount: message us on WhatsApp for a group quote.

This is the actual run of a typical evening at our camp — the same programme our guests have rated 4.9 stars across 650+ reviews.
You reach the camp entrance, park in the free secure lot, and check in with our team. Cold water is waiting — you'll want it.
Our drivers deflate the tyres and take you over the red dunes of the Al Lahbab desert in a 4x4 Land Cruiser — 20 to 30 minutes of controlled slides and climbs, with photo stops on the high ridges.
Back at camp: camel rides, sandboarding down the soft slopes, quad bikes if you'd like to add them, and the best sunset photos you'll take in Dubai.
Unlimited BBQ buffet with grilled meats, Arabic mezze, salads, fresh bread and desserts — clearly labelled vegetarian and non-vegetarian lines, with unlimited water, tea and soft drinks.
Belly dance, the spinning Tanoura dance and a fire show on the central stage, with henna painting and Arabic costume photos between performances.
The camp lights dim, you collect your car and follow the highway back to the city. Most guests are home by 10 PM — no bus rounds, no waiting.
We're a licensed Dubai tour operator. Every safari vehicle is insured, fitted with roll cages and driven by trained, certified dune drivers — never freelancers.
Operating since 2010, we know the Al Lahbab dunes the way you know your street — the safest lines, the quietest sunset spots, the best time to ride.
AED 20 means AED 20. No booking fees, no "service charges" at the camp, no pressure to upgrade. Pay cash or card on arrival.
Your car waits in a fenced, staffed parking area at the camp entrance. Rental cars are welcome — the drive is 100% on paved roads.
Message us any hour and a team member — not a bot — replies in minutes with availability, directions or help planning your evening.
Kids under 3 join free, the camp has family seating areas, and our drivers adjust dune bashing intensity on request — just tell them "light drive".
Dune bashing looks wild — that's the point — but behind it is a strict routine we've refined over 15 years:
Land Cruisers with roll cages, checked daily, tyres deflated to desert pressure before every single run.
All drivers hold desert driving certification and first-aid training, and follow set convoy routes with radio contact.
Seat belts always on, no standing through sunroofs, gentler drives for kids and seniors, and we advise pregnant guests and those with back conditions to skip the bashing and enjoy the camp.
Here's what recent guests say about the self drive experience.

The VIP package was worth every dirham. VIP seating, premium food, and personal attention made our honeymoon special. The sunset views and traditional shows were magical — can't wait to return.

It means you drive your own car to our desert camp meeting point instead of paying for hotel pickup. You park free in our secure lot, then our licensed drivers take you dune bashing in a 4x4 Land Cruiser. Afterwards you enjoy camel rides, sandboarding, BBQ dinner and live shows at the camp, and drive yourself home whenever the evening ends. Skipping the transfer is what brings the price down to AED 20 per person.
No. Your car stays safely parked at the camp entrance on a paved area — it never touches sand. All dune bashing is done by our professional safari drivers in specially prepared 4x4s with roll cages and deflated tyres. You only drive the normal highway route to the meeting point, which any sedan or rental car can handle. Want to understand the rules for driving yourself in UAE deserts? Our camp is just off the main desert highway, roughly 45 minutes' drive from Downtown Dubai and reachable entirely on tarmac. As soon as you book, we send the exact Google Maps pin on WhatsApp, plus a staff phone number in case you miss the turn. Free secure parking is right at the camp entrance.
Camp entry, unlimited BBQ buffet dinner (vegetarian and non-vegetarian), a short camel ride, sandboarding, henna painting, Arabic costume photos, unlimited water, tea and soft drinks, live entertainment — belly dance, Tanoura and fire show — and free secure parking. Dune bashing in a 4x4 can be added at the camp for a small extra charge. Full details on the Self Drive Desert Safari page.
Yes. The camp is family-friendly and children of all ages are welcome for the dinner, shows and camel rides. For dune bashing we follow standard safety rules: seat belts for everyone, and we advise against it for pregnant women, very young infants and guests with serious back or heart conditions — they can relax at the camp while the rest of the group rides.
Aim to reach the meeting point by 3:00–3:30 PM. That leaves time to park, join the dune bashing session before sunset, and settle into the camp as the shows begin. The evening wraps up around 9:00 PM. Not sure which season or slot suits you? See our best time for a desert safari guide.
Same-day booking may be possible depending on availability. For a last-minute Self Drive Desert Safari, it is best to contact the booking team directly with your preferred date and number of guests so availability can be checked before you travel to the desert.
No problem — choose our evening desert safari with hotel pickup (AED 100 per person) and a 4x4 will collect you from your hotel or residence anywhere in Dubai. Alternatively, many guests take a taxi or a daily rental car; even with rental costs, a group of four usually still saves money with the self drive option.
Light, comfortable clothing, closed shoes or sandals you don't mind getting sandy, sunglasses and sunscreen. Evenings from November to March can get surprisingly cool, so bring a light jacket. Full packing list in our what to wear guide.
Everything we've learned from 15 years on the dunes, written down so you can plan the perfect trip — whether you book with us or not.
